Scripture to Read: Hebrews 2:1
As we begin today, the writer of Hebrews is led by God to make a powerful statement here in Hebrews 2:1. God leads the writer to say, because Christ is greater than all the angels, because He is Lord of all, because Christ is the Creator of everything, and because Christ is God, we, as believers, need to pay close attention to what God is teaching us through His Word. The reason we need to pay close attention to
all God has said to us through His Word and through those who have taught us His Word is so that none of us get distracted by anything this world may throw at us. The world gets us very busy with good things such as school, sports, jobs, and then, of course, we have the circumstances of life that hit us daily. We must guard our time and make sure we are pursuing our intimacy with God and with His Word. Choosing to be intimate with God and His Word is a daily act of our will. We can ask God, all day long, for more desire for Him and His Word, but the reality is that we are in charge of our choices, so it is up to us to carve out time with God and His Word, so we grow up in Him daily. “Drifting away” from God and His Word is something every follower
of Christ must battle against daily. Let’s make sure we choose to daily “pay close attention to what we have heard so that we do not drift away from it.”
