Scripture to Read: Acts 6:4
Led by God the Holy Spirit, the twelve apostles made it clear what kind of men needed to be chosen to lead the ministry to the widows. Then, God had the apostles add one final thing to what they knew they must do in Acts 6:4: “But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” The apostles reiterated that they must set their hearts and devotion on the Word of God, but they also added that they must be devoted to prayer. As followers of Christ, our prayer lives are vital to our sweet fellowship with God Almighty. God tells us in Ephesians 6:18, “With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints.” God had Paul mention prayer four times in Ephesians 6:18. Notice that we are to be praying for all the saints. Consider how you currently pray and evaluate how often you pray for every believer on the face of the earth. God wants us to come before Him and fellowship with Him through prayer. As we pray for the saints around the world, some incredible ways to pray for them is praying Ephesians 1:18–19, Philippians 1:9–11, Colossians 1:9–12, and so many more. When we pray God’s Word, we know we’re praying according to His purpose and plans and for His pleasure. God does not want us to be robbed of our time with Him, but we must be disciplined to do it.
