Day 7

Scripture to Read: Romans 3:7–8

As we finish this week, the absurd questions continue in Romans 3:7–8. As we saw yesterday, God answered the foolish questions by reminding all believers that He is impartial and always fair in His judgment. But today we read a continuation of the absurd questions in Romans 3:7, as God led Paul to ask this ridiculous question, But if through my lie the truth of God abounded to His glory, why am I also still being judged as a sinner? The fact that God had Paul write this question reveals that people were asking this question. The question in Romans 3:7 shows that people were arguing that God had no right to condemn them as sinners because they believed their lies brought to light God’s truthfulness and brought more glory to Him. Then we read in Romans 3:8 that some people were slandering Paul and saying Paul had taught them that they should do evil so that good may come from their evil actions. It’s ridiculous to think anyone would think this way or say such slanderous things about Paul’s teachings. But sin blinds peoples’ minds and hearts (2 Corinthians 3:14, 2 Corinthians 4:3–4). Those blinded by the god of this world will say and do things that are absurd to Christians. God led Paul to finish Romans 3:8 by confirming that the condemnation that He brings upon those who refuse Him is just and righteous. God has made Himself known so that no one can say they have any excuse for not knowing Him (Romans 1:20).

Challenge & Application

· What kind of ridiculous statements have you heard from people trying to rationalize their sin? · How can you help people see the love and light of God and His Word so they see they are in desperate need of Him?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God continued to use Paul to rebuke the Jews for many false beliefs the Jews had about themselves. The Jews thought their head knowledge of God’s Law was enough for their salvation. The Jews put too much trust in their knowledge of God’s Law and not in God Himself. The Jews thought they had a special relationship with God because they were bo...

Day 2

As we continue to walk through Romans 2:17–29 today, we find God rebuking the Jews for placing their hope in their circumcision. Now, why would circumcision be so crucial to the Jews? Because, back in Genesis 17, God established His covenant with Abraham and told Abraham this in Genesis 17:10–12, This is My covenant, which you shall keep, bet...

Day 3

As we saw yesterday, circumcision was something the Jews had placed their hope in, not in Christ as Lord. God continued, through Paul, to challenge the Jews about their circumcision. So, God led Paul to ask the Jews two questions concerning the Gentiles, who were called “the uncircumcised” by the Jews. In Romans 2:26–27, here are the two ques...

Day 4

The advantages of being a follower of Christ are endless. The benefits God has given believers are listed throughout Scripture. In Ephesians 1:18–19, God mentions the hope of His calling, the riches of the glory of His inheritance in us, as saints, and the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. In Colossians 1:13–14, God rem...

Day 5

Yesterday we saw some of the benefits of being a follower of Christ. God does not want us to miss all He’s done for us through Christ or all He continues doing in and through us because of His Holy Spirit living in us. In Romans 3:1–4, God did not want the Jews to miss the benefits He had given them either. Yesterday we saw that God had given...

Day 6

God continues, through Paul, to ask another question that has an obvious answer. But though the answer is obvious to believers today, the answer was not obvious when this letter was written, and it is still not obvious to those without Christ. God had Paul ask and then also answer this question in Romans 3:5–6, But if our unrighteousness demo...
