Scripture to Read: Romans 14:22–23
God leaves no doubt that we must not destroy His handiwork in the lives of weak believers over what we eat or don’t eat. We already talked about the consequences of causing someone to stumble on Day 1 of our devotions, but God has repeated it because He does not want us to take this lightly. The faith God has given us gives us the freedom to make choices that are pleasing to our Lord. We know our faith is from God because God tells us in Romans 12:3, “For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.” God had Paul end Romans 14 by examining our faith to ensure we do not doubt our decisions. We must be in God’s Word to know what is pleasing to Him and what is not, even when it comes to what we eat and drink. If we doubt a decision but still do it, that is a sin. God tells us in Romans 14:22–23 “The faith which you have, have as your own conviction before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. 23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and whatever is not from faith is sin.” So, pursue God and His Word, trust Him and your faith grows as you apply it daily.
