Scripture to Read: Nehemiah 3:3-5
The next gate mentioned in Nehemiah 3:3 is the Fish Gate. We read, in Nehemiah 3:3-5, of all the people involved in rebuilding the wall once the Fish Gate is rebuilt. The Fish Gate was named because this was the gate that the fish were brought into Jerusalem from the Mediterranean Sea, the Jordan River, and the Sea of Galilee. The Fish Gate symbolizes Christ’s call on each of His follower’s lives; Matthew 4:19 “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Jesus has called each of us to be fishers of men. We can be fishers of men because His Holy Spirit lives in us. God gave us His Spirit the day we surrendered to Christ as Lord and Savior. Jesus tells us of the promise of His Spirit in Acts 1:8, “but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” To be able to be a good fisherman, an individual has to have all of the right gear. No fisherman goes to catch fish without first making sure they have all they need. Since the Holy Spirit lives in us, we have everything we need to carry out Christ’s call on our lives to be “fishers of men.” God’s Spirit in us gives us His power, His confidence, His courage, and His words so we can be great “fishers of men.”

1. What did God teach you today about being a “fisher of men?”
2. Who are you currently sharing Christ with in order to be a great “fisher of men?”
