Day 6

Scripture to Read: Luke 7:48–50

God always leaves zero doubt in our minds and hearts when we examine His Word and choose to believe Him and His Word wholeheartedly. God had Luke record this in Luke 7:48–50, “Then He said to her, ‘Your sins have been forgiven.’ 49 Those who were reclining at the table with Him began to say to themselves, ‘Who is this man who even forgives sins?’ 50 And He said to the woman, ‘Your faith has saved you; go in peace.’” As we saw in yesterday’s devotion, the woman’s sins had already been forgiven, but Jesus turns to her and tells her, “Your sins have been forgiven.” One of the greatest gifts we have received from God are His words, which are recorded in His Word, the Bible. Just as when you have wronged another person and you ask for their forgiveness, there is no sweeter gift than for them to look at you and say, “You are forgiven.” The healing power in those words, “You are forgiven,” is needed by everyone. Jesus knew the woman needed to hear it from Him, “Your sins are forgiven.” So many Christians today struggle with believing that all of their sins have been forgiven (past, present, and even future sins). God makes this clear in Colossians 1:13–14 and again in Colossians 2:13–14. Christ paid in full the debt of the sins owed by all mankind, for all time. For everyone who is a follower of Christ, we must truly believe that we are forgiven in order to enjoy the fullness of our fellowship with our Lord each day.

Challenge & Application

Why did Jesus turn and tell the woman, “Your sins have been forgiven,” and “Your faith has saved you?” How has your life changed knowing that your sins have been forgiven and that your faith has saved you?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God had Luke describe many encounters that Jesus had with different people during His ministry here on earth. One of those encounters is described in Luke 7:36–50. God first had Luke record this in Luke 7:36, “Now one of the Pharisees was requesting Him to dine with him, and He entered the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table.” A Pharis...

Day 2

Jesus fellowshipped with almost anyone who invited Him to dine with them. What a great reminder that when anyone is willing to invite Jesus in, Jesus arrives offering the fullness of His grace, love, mercy, and forgiveness. Only when someone fully surrenders to Him do they experience all that Jesus has to offer. As God continues to walk us th...

Day 3

Jesus already knew the heart of the woman who was washing His feet with her tears and anointing His feet with the sweet perfume. But Jesus also knew the true heart of the Pharisee, as God had Luke record the following in Luke 7:39, “Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he said to himself, ‘If this man were a prophet He would kn...

Day 4

Jesus often used illustrations and parables in His teachings to help people better understand what He was teaching them. God had Luke record what Jesus said to the Pharisee in Luke 7:40–42, “And Jesus answered him, ‘Simon, I have something to say to you.’ And he replied, ‘Say it, Teacher.’ 41 ‘A moneylender had two debtors: one owed five hund...

Day 5

God uses His Word to teach us, train us, correct us, guide us, and feed us. As God had Luke record what’s next, we read this in Luke 7:43–47, “Simon answered and said, ‘I suppose the one whom he forgave more.’ And He said to him, ‘You have judged correctly.’ 44 Turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, ‘Do you see this woman? I entered your...

Day 7

Jesus had many followers during His ministry here, and God gives us a look, as He had Luke record this in Luke 8:1–3, “Soon afterwards, He began going around from one city and village to another, proclaiming and preaching the kingdom of God. The twelve were with Him, 2 and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses: Ma...
