Day 2

Scripture to Read: Luke 5:14–16

After Jesus had healed the man with leprosy; God had Luke record this in Luke 5:14–16, “And He ordered him to tell no one, ‘But go and show yourself to the priest and make an offering for your cleansing, just as Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.’ 15 But the news about Him was spreading even farther, and large crowds were gathering to hear Him and to be healed of their sicknesses. 16 But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray.” We find throughout the Gospels that Jesus, after performing a miracle, would command people to keep quiet about the miracle they had just witnessed. Jesus did this knowing that His time for the cross had not yet come, but that it would happen in God’s perfect timing, as recorded in Daniel 9. Jesus healed, not just to meet the needs of the individual, but to show His power as the Messiah so that others would believe in Him as Lord and Savior. But God had Luke record that word continued to spread quickly about Jesus, and many sought Him out so they also could be healed. Sadly, many people seek our Lord today only in times of crisis yet remain unwilling to surrender to Him as Lord. But God is not a genie waiting to grant the wishes of mankind. We must continually worship Him as Lord, King, Master, and Savior. We also see that Jesus often withdrew to spend time in fellowship with our Heavenly Father. We definitely need this daily to stay refreshed, renewed, and revived in our fellowship with our Lord.

Challenge & Application

Why do so many people want a miracle from our Lord but are still unwilling to surrender to Him as their Lord? How do we stay in right fellowship with our Lord, and why is daily time alone with our Lord and His Word so crucial for us to grow?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Jesus continued His ministry throughout the region of Galilee, where about 85% of His public ministry took place. As Jesus was going from place to place, we find that God had Luke record the following in Luke 5:12–13, “While He was in one of the cities, behold, there was a man covered with leprosy; and when he saw Jesus, he fell on his face a...

Day 3

Jesus’ ministry continued to marvel many, and often, people would do whatever it took to get their family and friends in front of Jesus just hoping He would be willing to heal them. God had Luke record the following in Luke 5:17–19, “One day He was teaching; and there were some Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting there, who had come fro...

Day 4

Since we know the determination of the friends of the man with leprosy, we read this today in Luke 5:20–26, “Seeing their faith, He said, ‘Friend, your sins are forgiven you.’ 21 The scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, ‘Who is this man who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?’ 22 But Jesus, aware of their re...

Day 5

At this point in Jesus’ life, He was still calling His disciples to follow Him. Historically, a rabbi of that time would typically begin taking on disciples at the age of thirty. It was at the age of thirty that Jesus began His public ministry. For those bright (or wealthy) enough, higher education meant studying under a local rabbi. If a rab...

Day 6

The religious leaders of Jesus’ day hated Him and sought every opportunity to accuse Him of breaking God’s commandments. The problem was that they had no idea they were accusing the very God who gave those commandments. God had Luke record in Luke 5:33–35, “And they said to Him, ‘The disciples of John often fast and offer prayers, the discipl...

Day 7

Jesus continued to use parables as He taught the religious leaders. We read in Luke 5:36–39, “And He was also telling them a parable: ‘No one tears a piece of cloth from a new garment and puts it on an old garment; otherwise he will both tear the new, and the piece from the new will not match the old. 37 And no one puts new wine into old wine...
