Scripture to Read: Luke 14:7–11
Jesus always took advantage of every opportunity He was given to teach God’s Truth. God the Father wants to use us in the same way. Therefore, we should pray daily for ourselves and all other Christians (Colossians 4:3–4), asking God to open doors of opportunity for us so that we may speak about the mystery of Christ and make God and His Word clear in the way we speak. Jesus told a parable to the invited guests when He saw that they had picked out places of honor at the table. God had Luke record this in Luke 14:8–11, “When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for someone more distinguished than you may have been invited by him, 9 and he who invited you both will come and say to you, ‘Give your place to this man,’ and then in disgrace you proceed to occupy the last place. 10 But when you are invited, go and recline at the last place, so that when the one who has invited you comes, he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher’; then you will have honor in the sight of all who are at the table with you. 11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” God had James and Peter write about humility in James 4:6 and 4:10, and 1 Peter 3:8, 5:5, and 5:6. We must choose humility no matter our title or position in this life.
Challenge & Application
Why should we pray Colossians 4:3–4 for ourselves and all other Christians daily?
Why is it critical for all followers of Christ to choose to be humble and never prideful?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
