Day 4

Scripture to Read: Luke 12:21

As we examine Luke 12:21 today, Jesus tells us that storing up treasure here on earth and choosing not to be rich toward God is to be a fool. As followers of our Lord Jesus Christ, we still have to decide daily to passionately pursue our fellowship with Christ and be in His Word. When we choose not to practice the presence of Christ and His Word in our life, then we are choosing to “store up treasure” for ourselves and not be rich toward God. Often Christians will ask God to give them more desire for Him and His Word. When believers ask God for more desire and the desire does not come, then that believer can blame God for not answering their prayer, which is simply not biblical. God has already given every believer all we need to pursue Him and His Word passionately. God makes this clear in 2 Peter 1:3-4. The NLT says it this way, “By His divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know Him, the One who called us to Himself by means of His marvelous glory and excellence. 4 And because of His glory and excellence, He has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share His divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.” So, every believer already has everything we need to live for Him because we have His Holy Spirit living in us.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about your passionate pursuit of Him and His Word? 2. What needs to change in your daily schedule/routine to be sure you are passionately pursuing fellowship with God and His Word?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

In reading Luke 12:1-12, Jesus had been teaching the crowds about hypocrisy and people having hidden agendas. But then Jesus told His listeners that all of those hidden agendas would one day be brought into full light. Jesus also taught the crowd that no one should fear anyone who could kill their body, but instead they were to fear God alone...

Day 2

Jesus often taught with parables during His earthly ministry. The parable shared in Luke 12:16-19 describes a rich man who had been abundantly blessed with very productive land. In other words, this man’s land produced for him such an abundance of crops that he felt like he didn’t need anything or anyone else. This man felt so self-sufficient...

Day 3

As we saw in yesterday’s devotion, we must guard against treasuring the stuff of this world. As we read Luke 12:20, we clearly see that God considered the man a fool for laying up his goods for many years to come. If we’re not careful, we could think that God does not want us to have any savings set aside, but that is not the point. God does ...

Day 5

God has been teaching us that what we treasure truly matters. God desires us to treasure Him and His Word. God gives us His Truth because He knows His Word sets us free (John 8:31-32 “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”) and fills us with everythi...

Day 6

There are days when we wonder why we struggle with certain temptations. Our focus today is on James 1:13-16. God wants us to know that when we are tempted that He never tempts us. Not only are we never tempted by God, but God cannot be tempted by evil at all. Our temptations come from the fleshly shell we live in here on earth. We call our fl...

Day 7

God’s been teaching us this week about the difference between treasuring this world or treasuring Him and His Word. God has shown us again and again that the choice is ours to make. As we read 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, God reminds us that though we live in the fleshly shell we live in, we cannot wage war in a fleshly manner. God tells us that the...
