Scripture to Read: John 3:31–32
John the Baptist again reminded all of the Jews who were with him of who Christ was and what He came to do. We read in John 3:31, “He who comes from above is above all, he who is of the earth is from the earth and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.” John the Baptist reminded the Jews that Christ was from above but that he and all of them were of this world. Jesus told the Jews and the religious leaders in John 8:23–24, “You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world. 24 Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.” Being of this world means we are lost and dead in our sins. Everyone must choose who they will follow and believe in. For those who follow Christ, we are guaranteed life (John 5:39–40, John 10:10). For those who choose to deny Christ and follow their own way, they are guaranteed, as Jesus said, to die in their sins. John the Baptist also reminded his listeners in John 3:32, “What He has seen and heard, of that He testifies; and no one receives His testimony.” John the Baptist told them that what Christ had seen and heard was from God the Father. John the Baptist confirmed that Jesus was the Christ, the long-awaited One, and that they must follow Him.
