Scripture to Read: John 16:8-11
The Holy Spirit is God, and many believers often forget that fact. Sometimes, the Holy Spirit is referred to as a thing and not as God, but He is 100% God. Jesus knew everything the Holy Spirit would do, so He gave the disciples (and us) insight into His handiwork. Jesus said in John 16:8-11, “And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; 11 and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.” Consider that the Holy Spirit is not only indwelling every follower of Christ, but He is also actively convicting every lost soul on this planet. When we share Christ with a lost person, we can know without a doubt that He has been convicting that lost person concerning their sin and unbelief in Christ, their need for Christ’s righteousness, and that there is a coming judgment. If more Christians would take to heart Christ’s Word here in John 16:8-11, they would pray differently for their lost friends and family, and they would realize that they are joining what the Holy Spirit has been doing in that lost person’s life for a long time. When Jesus gave the command in Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:15, and Acts 1:8 to go and make disciples and be His witnesses, He knew God the Holy Spirit was coming to do His work preparing the lost.
