Scripture to Read: Hebrews 6:1
When we examined Hebrews 5, we found God using the writer of Hebrews to lovingly rebuke the Jewish Christians and any immature Christians since then, NOT to be childish as followers of Christ. So, we read in Hebrews 6:1 God leading the writer to contin- ue with this loving rebuke. We need to be growing as believers and get beyond the basic elementary teach- ings about our Lord Jesus Christ. God desires that we mature, just like we mature as we grow older in this
life. When a child graduates out of a highchair, that’s a big deal for them and their parents. When a child grad- uates out of a crib and into a regular bed, that’s a big deal for them and their parents. When a child graduates from high school and goes to college, the military, a full-time job, or a combination of any of these, that’s a big deal for them and their parents. So, God wants us
to understand that just as we press on to maturity in this momentary life, we need to press on to maturity/ perfection in our walk with Him. The Greek word for perfection/maturity is “teleiotes.” The truth God is shar- ing here in Hebrews 6:1 is that every believer ought to be reaching for that place of maturity in our walk with Christ. We should be teaching, leading, discipling, men- toring, investing, so that others mature in Christ and follow our example to do the same thing in their lives, as well.
