Scripture to Read: Genesis 3:15
We start today by going back to Genesis 3:15 as a reminder that this Scripture is called the “first gospel” because we see the picture of Christ’s crucifixion and His victory over Satan, as well as the power and penalty of sin. The word Gospel means “good news.” The promise God gave us in Genesis 3:15 is the “first good news” shared by God in His Word. God promised that while the serpent may have succeeded in deceiving mankind, the seed of the woman would go on to be victorious over the seed of the serpent. This kind of language is war language that God used. Later on, in the New Testament, God tells us in Ephesians 6:12 that our struggle is NOT with “flesh and blood.” But, our battle is against “the rulers, the powers, the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” So, we need to understand who our battle is against each day to not battle against one another. In Genesis 3:15, God let us know that He had His attack already planned. The final blow would be to crush the head of the tempter, Satan, through our Lord Jesus Christ, the offspring of the woman. Christ’s sacrificial death was for the complete forgiveness of all sins, for all time. Christ’s burial and resurrection totally defeated the curse of sin and death for ALL who come to Him in faith and repentance from sin. This is the Good News we need to live in and share each day.
