Scripture to Read: Exodus 15:14–21
What is interesting about today’s devotion is that we get to see how the people of Israel viewed the nations around them after crossing through the Red Sea. Because we’re reading God’s Word, we know that God could have revealed to Moses what the nations around them were thinking. God does not reveal in His Word how Moses and the Israelites knew; we just know what God has given us. Here is what God reveals in Exodus 15:14–16, “The peoples have heard, they tremble; Anguish has gripped the inhabitants of Philistia. 15 Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed; The leaders of Moab, trembling grips them; All the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away. 16 Terror and dread fall upon them; By the greatness of Your arm they are motionless as stone; Until Your people pass over, O Lord, Until the people pass over whom You have purchased.” Note how all of the nations are described. Every nation is in absolute fear of God and His wondrous power. Then, Moses and the Israelites remember that God will plant them where He dwells so they can worship Him at His holy mountain. They also praise God, knowing He will reign forever. The Israelites had every reason to praise our Lord. What we must remember is that God is not just worthy of praise in the good times, but He is also worthy of praise when the trials come. No matter what we may face, God is in charge, and we can trust in Him, for He alone is God!
