Scripture to Read: Daniel 6:11–13
Daniel did not compromise His walk with our Lord, and we know from Daniel 6:11–13 that his accusers quickly reported to Darius the king that Daniel had broken the law the king had set in place. In Daniel 6:12–15, we see how Daniel’s enemies had set him up. We read in Daniel 6:12,
Then they approached and spoke before the king about the king’s injunction, “Did you not sign an injunction that any man who makes a petition to any god or man besides you, O king, for thirty days, is to be cast into the lions’ den?” The king replied, “The statement is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which may not be revoked.” The enemies of Daniel reminded the king of the law he had passed. The enemies were skillful at getting this law passed because they knew that once it was passed, it couldn’t be changed. In Daniel 6:13, we see what bothered Daniel’s enemies. Daniel 6:13, “Then they answered and spoke before the king, “Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, O king, or to the injunction which you signed, but keeps making his petition three times a day.” They hated that Daniel served one God, the one true God—it’s the same issue today. People hate that Christians say that there is only one God and that Jesus is The Way to a right relationship with God the Father, but no matter what others say, we can never compromise God’s Truth or our fellowship with Him.
Challenge & Application
• Why did Daniel’s enemies hate him and want him dead?
• Why does this world today still hate Christians, and why is it so important that we never compromise our walk with Christ?
