Scripture to Read: Daniel 4:1–3
Some believe the material in Daniel 4 occurred a few decades after what happened in Daniel 3. This would have made Daniel somewhere in his 40s, maybe even in his late 40s. Daniel 4 begins with a greeting. From what we can tell, Nebuchadnezzar wrote all of Daniel 4. That means that God led Daniel to include what Nebuchadnezzar wrote in the rest of what God had Daniel record in the Book of Daniel. Nebuchadnezzar says in Daniel 4 that something happened to him that had a major impact on him, and it was so intense that he had to write about it. Daniel 4:2 is the beginning of Nebuchadnezzar’s personal testimony, and he records, “It has seemed good to me to declare the signs and wonders which the Most High God has done for me.” Nebuchadnezzar shared his personal experience. Note how he said “the Most High God” and not the gods of Babylonia. We know that Christianity is about our personal relationship with God the Father through our Lord Jesus Christ because His Holy Spirit lives in us. The difference between a believer and a non-believer and a Christian and a non-Christian is intimacy with God. In Daniel 4:3, Nebuchadnezzar shares, “How great are His signs and how mighty are His wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom and His dominion is from generation to generation.” Nebuchadnezzar was praising God and exalting God’s authority and sovereignty. Nebuchadnezzar was sharing from his transformed life before he began to share in the next part of Daniel 4 what actually happened to him to get him there.
Challenge & Application
• God has given each of us a personal testimony, so, how have you shared your testimony this week?
• Why is a personal testimony so powerful, and what should we always include in our testimony?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
