Scripture to Read: 2 Timothy 4:1-2
God continues to teach us through His Holy Word. We must remember that 2 Timothy is not just a letter from Paul to Timothy, but this letter is God’s revelation, through Paul, to Timothy and us. God has Paul begin 2 Timothy 4:1 with a command in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus. God wants us to realize that any command from Him is serious and the command He shares through Paul in 2 Timothy 4 is incredibly serious. God also reminds us that He is the final Judge of everyone, both the living and the dead. In other words, God has the final word on everyone’s life. Then in 2 Timothy 4:2, God begins to unpack His command. We, as God’s messengers (Ephesians 6:19-20), as being part of His royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9), must preach His Word. Some people think this command is only for the professional preacher but God commands all of us, as His children, to be ready to speak His Word at any time. We must be ready to speak God’s Truth with a sense of urgency with everyone who does not know Him. The reason for this urgency is because our Lord Jesus Christ could come back at any moment for His bride, the church (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17), and our Lord desires all mankind to know Him (1 Timothy 2:3-4; 2 Peter 3:9). God does not tell us to wait until it is convenient nor to wait until we think the person is ready to listen. God just tells us to “be ready.”
