Scripture to Read: 2 Thessalonians 3:11-12
We know, from yesterday’s devotion, that work is a gift from God. We also know, from the devotion on Day 1, that there were believers in Thessalonica who had become unruly/undisciplined/lazy because they thought that Christ would return any day and so they just quit working. What God commands, through Paul, is for anyone capable of working is to do so. God knows the talents that He has given to each individual on the face of the earth. God knows how He specifically designed each one of us. Therefore, we can know that God designed us for His purpose to carry out His work for His glory. If we choose to be lazy and undisciplined in any area of our life, then we are being disobedient to our God and His commands. We must guard our attitudes and hearts against selfish ambition and bitter jealousy. Selfishness and jealousy are not from our God. God shares this truth with us in James 3:14-15 “14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth. 15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic.” Choosing laziness and living undisciplined in any area of our life also sets a bad example for anyone watching our lives. Whether we like it or not, there are always people watching how we live our lives. We must be diligent in honoring our Lord in all we do.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today about living an undisciplined life?
2. How will you guard your heart and attitude from becoming undisciplined and unruly?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
