Day 2

Scripture to Read: 1 Peter 3:1–2

As we continue to examine the marriage relationship according to God, He gives us this same Truth about the wife’s relationship to her husband in Ephesians 5:22–24. We must not miss this beautiful picture God has given us in His Word. God tells us that the marriage relationship should be an amazing picture of the wife representing the body of Christ (the church) in the marriage relationship, and the husband should represent Christ in the marriage. In 1 Peter 3:1, God, through Peter, tells all wives who may have husbands who are NOT walking with Christ to still submit to their husband’s authority. WHY? God’s Word is clear in 1 Peter 3:1–2, …so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives, 2 as they observe your chaste and respectful behavior. God wants every Christian wife to know that through her godly behavior, perhaps her disobedient husband may be won over to Christ without her using any words, but he simply observes how she respects him and loves him. The Amplified Version says it like this in 1 Peter 3:2, when they see your modest and respectful behavior [together with your devotion and appreciation—love your husband, encourage him, and enjoy him as a blessing from God]. Today, our culture is so anti–biblical that many want to argue against God’s Word. Nevertheless, God shows us His incredible grace, even when we struggle to submit to His authority. But we must die to our cultural mindset and renew our minds through Christ.

Challenge & Application

1. How have you seen healthy marriage relationships modeling the picture God gives in Ephesians 5 and 1 Peter 3? 2. Why is it so important to marry a godly spouse and then submit to God’s Truth in Ephesians 5 and 1 Peter 3?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

As we ended last week, God showed us that we have been called as servants of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because we are Christ’s servants, we are to willingly submit to the authorities in our lives. God also showed us that even when those authorities are harsh to us, as long as we are serving our Lord, when we suffer, we will find favor with God. ...

Day 3

God continues to encourage godly wives to seek both inward and outward beauty. God says in 1 Peter 3:3–4, Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— 4 but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, w...

Day 4

As we saw yesterday, God wants our hearts to be transformed by Him and His Word. Again, outward beauty is not bad because the body we dwell in is God’s holy temple (1 Corinthians 3:16; 1 Corinthians 6:19–20) and we must take care of His temple. But God does give us a beautiful explanation of our heart in 1 Peter 3:4 in the Amplified Version o...

Day 5

Today God continues to speak to us as we examine 1 Peter 3:5–6. God clearly says For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves, by submitting to their own husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. And you are her children, if you do good and do not fear anything that is frightening. God gives us this be...

Day 6

God has clearly been showing us, whether we’re married or not, how we must submit to the authorities in our lives. God has also shown us that we have nothing to fear through our submission because His perfect love casts out all fear. Why? Because we know He is in charge of all areas of our lives and even if we suffer persecution, we trust and...

Day 7

Finally, today, God, through Peter, tells all husbands how to live and love their wives in 1 Peter 3:7. Similarly, through Paul, God tells husbands the following in Ephesians 5:25, Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her. And again, in Colossians 3:19, Husbands, love your wives and do not be...
