Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 16:5–9
God has a plan for each to fulfill. He tells us in Ephesians 2:10, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” God again tells us in Titus 2:14, “who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.” God says it again in Titus 3:8 and in 1 Peter 3:13, so we must be about His good deeds every day. God had Paul share with the church in Corinth the good deeds God had called him to do in 1 Corinthians 16:5–9, “But I will come to you after I go through Macedonia, for I am going through Macedonia; 6 and perhaps I will stay with you, or even spend the winter, so that you may send me on my way wherever I may go. 7 For I do not wish to see you now just in passing; for I hope to remain with you for some time, if the Lord permits. 8 But I will remain in Ephesus until Pentecost; 9 for a wide door for effective service has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.” God had given Paul a desire to return to Corinth, but not until he fulfilled the ministry God had called him to in Macedonia. As we serve our Lord, if He calls us to a new ministry, we must always finish well where He first called us to serve Him.
