Day 2

Scripture to Read: John 1:4–5

Knowing Christ is God is essential to our faith. With all of the religions in the world claiming to be “a way” to God or “a way” to heaven or “a way” to escape eternal punishment, we know that Christ is “The Way” and that there is no other way. As God the Holy Spirit led John to write, we read in John 1:4–5, “In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. 5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” Christ is not “a way” to life, but Christ is Life (Colossians 3:4, John 11:25, Galatians 2:20). This means that acquiring life apart from Christ is impossible. When God’s Word says, “In Him was life,” God is making it clear that He is the only One with the power to give life. Both physical life and eternal life are what come through Christ alone. When God the Father, through Christ, created Adam, we read in Genesis 2:7, “Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.” Life originates with our Creator, God Almighty, and knowing this as we read John 1:3, we understand that Christ is the one who provides life. Since Christ is life, we see that Christ is “the Light of men.” Light eliminates darkness, but apart from Christ, though physically alive, humans are all born spiritually dead—that’s why many did not “comprehend” Christ as God then and still now today.

Challenge & Application

• Since life is only possible through Christ, why do people search for life in so many other places, people, and things? • Since Christ is Light, how do we shine brightly for Him each day so others see Him through us?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

John is one of the original 12 disciples of Christ. God led John to write the Book of John, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, and Revelation. John lovingly refers to himself in the Book of John as one of the disciples “whom Jesus loved” (John 13:23, John 19:26, John 20:2, John 21:7, John 21:20). So, John had a beautiful understanding of how much Christ...

Day 3

God uses all of us, as Christians, to proclaim our Lord Jesus Christ to this lost world and each other as we walk with Him each day. God used John the Baptist to proclaim that Jesus is the Christ, the One prophesied about throughout the Old Testament. God had John write in John 1:6–8, “There came a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He...

Day 4

Christ came to this world to set every captive free from our bondage to sin and its power. As we saw yesterday, God called John the Baptist to proclaim Christ’s arrival, knowing Christ came to fulfill the Father’s perfect will. We find this prophecy about our Lord Jesus Christ in Isaiah 61:1, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because th...

Day 5

When Christ first came to this world, He came to His chosen people, the nation of Israel. The Israelites, especially the religious leaders, knew the prophecies in the Old Testament about their coming Messiah. There are around 360-plus prophecies about the coming Messiah in the Old Testament. So, when Christ came to this world, He came just as...

Day 6

God led John to come back to Christ as being fully God and fully man. We read in John 1:14–15, “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 John *testified about Him and cried out, saying, ‘This was He of whom I said,’ ‘He who comes after me ha...

Day 7

Christ came to give His life so that everyone made in His image could have life eternal through Him. Real life is not possible apart from Christ. Even when we consider the reason that we were created, we have no real purpose apart from Christ because everything this world offers us is fleeting/temporary/short-lived and only leaves us empty an...
